A Proposed California Bill, SB 278, Aims to Protect Seniors From Financial Scams

By Justice For Our Parents

A proposed California bill, SB 278, aims to protect seniors from financial scams by temporarily halting large transactions if banks suspect elder fraud. The bill, championed by Sen. @BillDodd, would require banks to delay transactions over $5,000 for at least three days when fraud is suspected and notify a designated contact.

Inspired by cases like Alice Lin, an 81-year-old woman who lost her life savings to scammers, this bill seeks to prevent future losses and ensure banks act responsibly to safeguard their elderly clients. If enacted, the bill would commence January 1, 2026.
