Know Your Rights: Legal Options for Reporting Elder Abuse
By Justice For Our Parents

Elder abuse isn't just wrongโit's against the law. Whether it's neglect in a care facility, financial exploitation, or physical abuse, families have legal options to protect their loved ones and hold abusers accountable.
If you suspect elder abuse, here's what you can do:
- Report it immediately to Adult Protective Services (APS): In California, call 1-833-401-0832 or visit cdss.ca.gov
- Report to local law enforcement if there is an immediate threat
- File a complaint with the California Department of Public Health or the California Dept. of Social Services for licensed care facilities (https://complaints.ccld.dss.ca.gov/)
- Consult with an attorney to explore civil claims for damages, especially in cases of neglect, injury, or wrongful death
Justice For Our Parents helps families navigate the legal system and fight for justice when the people meant to care for our elders have failed them. To learn more about our elder abuse attorney services, please click here..
