What You Should Know About Chemical Restraint in Nursing Homes

By Justice For Our Parents

Medication Issues

Did you know that elderly patients in nursing homes are often overmedicated solely for staff convenience? This practice, known as "chemical restraint," can lead to serious health risks such as:

• Increased risk of falls
• Cognitive decline
• Stroke or sudden death

If your loved one seems unresponsive, confused, or excessively drowsy, we encourage you to request an in-person meeting with facility management immediately. You have the right to know which medications are given to your loved one and if they are delivered as prescribed by their doctor.
