Why the Older Americans Act Still Matters for Elder Safety
By Justice For Our Parents
Los Angeles Elder Care Facilities

The Older Americans Act Reauthorization Act (S. 2120) is still making its way through the legislative process—but the programs it supports are already essential to the safety of older adults.
Services funded under this Act—such as caregiver support, meal programs, and community-based assistance—help reduce isolation and ensure seniors receive consistent oversight and care. The act also funds the Long-Term Care Ombudsman’s Office, which investigates and advocates for seniors in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes and memory care units. When those systems are strong, gaps in care will shrink—and fewer gaps mean fewer opportunities for neglect.
